Jane Goodall Global Youth Summit 2008
Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist, conservationist and humanitarian, personally invited 100 of the world's most outstanding young people to join her April 19-25, 2008, at Walt Disney World® in Orlando, Florida, USA for a week-long exploration of how each individual can make a difference in protecting the future of our planet.
The Summit 2008 included participation by Dr. Jane Goodall herself, youth-led panels, roundtable discussions, interactive workshops, keynote speakers and other activities. Participants examined the issues of environmental degradation, water scarcity, global poverty and wildlife conservation.
Attendees were outstanding young leaders who had a strong history of community service, demonstrated leadership qualities, the ability to articulate ideas and concepts and a commitment to returning home with a solid year-long plan of action.
Participant Testimonials
[The Global Youth Summit] cemented my desire to be conscious of my actions and make a positive difference for the world around me.
Though we come from disparate backgrounds in a smattering of cultures, we're all the same. We address different challenges in our lives, but everyone can share a laugh, ride a rollercoaster and save the world in the same language.
At this Summit I learned that friendship and shared passion for making a difference can transcend culture and even language. I made incredible connections with people incredibly unlike myself in so many ways, but similar in their passionate desire to make a difference.
Schedule
Each day at the Jane Goodall Global Youth Summit 2008 proved to be an inspirational and learning experience for all participants. The Summit featured a spectrum of energizing events, including a keynote address by Dr. Jane Goodall. Other speakers focused on the topics of youth leadership, global poverty, environmental issues, water scarcity and wildlife conservation.
It would hardly be fair to host an event at Walt Disney World without a visit to one of the venue's famous amusement parks. Attendees spent one full day at Disney's Animal Kingdom, enjoying the park's Earth Day celebration, learning about Disney's unique contributions to wildlife conservation, experiencing thrilling rides and shaking hands with the one and only Mickey Mouse.
